So I've had this idea in the back of my head for some time now. I've been working on drawings for my new bouquet dolls, originally asian inspired but they sort of take on their own personas and inspire lots of embellishment use and handmade elements. I've already begun to give them names! Inspired by these dolls called kokeshi!
"Kokeshi (こけし kokeshi?), are Japanese dolls, originally from northern Japan. They are handmade from wood, have a simple trunk and an enlarged head with a few thin, painted lines to define the face. The body has a floral design painted in red, black, and sometimes yellow, and covered with a layer of wax. One characteristic of kokeshi dolls is their lack of arms or legs."
This is just the beginning, I have all sorts of lovely ideas for my dolls...I'll be posting as my ideas come to fruition. I think for now I may work on two a month and try to involve a theme.
This one is Sayuri ( you know from the movie "memoirs of a geisha") She carries a spring bouquet ,full of butterflies and flowers, she loves dogwood trees in bloom and watching dandelions fly!
Thanks for stopping by, please excuse the slight purple tint on my photos, the lighting wasn't the best today and I am still learning to use the camera of mine!
