Happy Like Yellow

Just a few things today! First a layout I completed for lilybee...a fun creation using some of their journal tags. They have some really great little cards with all kinds of cute designs on them. I think my favorite might be the green Ampersand!

A little sewn banner that wouldn't be complete to me without a little watercolor! 

This project was completed with very few elements and I love the simplicity. The banner may have taken me the longest because I painted each little strip in different shades of green and a few pink.

Another I wanted to share was for the lovely Scarlet Bird designs blog! I got to use a few more of these really cute bits and badges from the collection. The badges are my favorite and what a great trend right now!

I think she's selling out and restocking often so get a few before they are gone! Check them out at Etsy.

I got to show off my little guy here and his love for star wars. He loves Darth Vadar but he'll take any of the popular robots too...See that big smile on this face? 

I wanted a more graphic feel to the layout so the layering and starburst card were perfect. A little blue watercolor and chevrons made the layout a little more fun and eclectic!

I've been stamping and hand cutting several little leaves and flowers to finish off my layouts with. There are some interesting things happening indeed! I alway get butterflies in my stomach when working on new and exciting styles!

Beach blue baby...

Despite the bad weather here I still managed to complete some projects but sadly have not been able to photograph them for the lack of light! So I thought I would share a cute little collage of some things I love.

Montage Love...

I've been diving into developing my photoshop skills lately! Woah some things come back and some just frustrate the heck out of me! It might be time to take a refresher course or two.

Time to create...

I absolutely had to share with you all today some of my little layered cards. I found the process so fun and thought provoking...If we could hold hope in a jar or stars or even love...what would we do with it? Just some dreamy thoughts that I find myself getting lost in from time to time...

Plus these little jars from the Dear lizzy line of papers are just so darn cute!

I can't say that I'm the most patient person so sometimes I gravitate to quickly made layouts. Using layers and colors in the most random of ways to make cards and complete my layouts works the best for me. Pulling from my stash of scraps is where I find the process of layering the most therapeutic.

Never mind the fact that it takes a lot for me to actually cut into most of my patterned papers. I'm such a hoarder! 

At some point I think I would like to add photos and make these little cards into a small photo albums strung together by some gorgeous grosgrain ribbon. 

I hope to continue with the project and add several more to the bunch. It's one of the things that encourages me to stay thinking creatively! I thoroughly believe in doing something creative everyday. Hardly a day goes by that I don't watercolor, staple or glue things down. 

Lately I've been thinking about transforming my blog a little bit so you may see a few things a little off from time to time. I think it's about time to update around here! Wish me luck!

LBD love...

Hi everyone! I have some things to share with you today. I don't know if I've mentioned it here before but I've been asked to participate with the Little black dress kit club! It's been great, they have some really lovely kits full of little embellishments, ribbons and amazing graphic elements. I have a few layouts up on their blog and I thought I'd share them over here today! 

For this first layout I chose to use a little yellow! Just a little(smile)... and some great patterned paper. I love the ribbons and the little journal stickers. Most times I like to create a contrast of some really sweet embellishments along with more vintage graphic ones. 

Two of my favorite things from this kit was the little turquoise button and wooden hello ticket!

For this next one I started by using a simpler approach creating a sort of grid out of little squares of paper. Like this script pattern, it's always been a favorite of mine. I have a pretty big stash of script paper, ledger and old book pages paper. 

When I printed out these photos they all went perfectly together so I didn't cut them out, I just kept them all together along with the little flower photo. So of course I had to use these cute little flowers on a wire and sweet pink buttons. 

That's what I like most about the kits, they have these really fun little embellishments that are simply not found everywhere. I'm always pushed to try something new with them! 

The kits keep getting better and better...check out this months Times flies kit, there are some really fun things in there!

The colors of my heart...

I can't get enough of it...the colors of all my pinterest faves...the brilliant watercolor works that I find on the web. It's all very inspiring to a color love like me. This layout was sort of inspired by those infamous paint chips from home depot and lowes. You know the ones, I'm sure I've made some sort of dent in their inventory!(smile) Every few months I make a trip to ooo and ahhh over all the pretty colors! Yes I do it every time...

How is everyone today? Hope the week has been an enjoyable one. I've been working on some of my own projects throughout the week. I love when I don't have any deadlines and I can just play around with my paints and paper. I painted the little card on this layout and really loved the outcome. The little text over the card is from Lilibee.

I made some little flags using a skewer and several little banner cut outs. I couldn't help but layer them, the more the merrier is what I say! Using some patterned papers and, of course, another paint chip strip with the cutest little start in the corner.

I love the graphic element of the black and white bingo card! So sad I had to cover it up with all the other layers.

All the bright colors and layers create such a happy feeling, And most of all the great smile from my son in the photo! 

Every now and then I like to pack on the layers and grab every little piece of paper that I can and try to fit in on a layout. Then other times I only like a few things to make a layout. It's the way the pendulum swings I guess. I like to try a little restraint sometimes also. 

Just stopping in to share a little today. In other news I have a little card made for lilibee over at their site this week. I couldn't help but include some watercolor. Check it out...there is a little giveaway going on too!

A pop of yellow and a smile...

Wanted to share today just a little bit of sunshine! Most times I have to restraint myself with the yellow but this was not one of those times. I pulled out the watercolors the buttons and the puffy yellow thickers. 

It really doesn't come across here but this photo of my son was on a really bright day when the sun was shining in his eyes and he gave me the greatest smile! It's one of my favorite photos because normally I get that look...you know the look kids give you when you're trying to get a 'happy' picture of them. The one where they aren't smirking or rolling their eyes!

Along with this great map paper from Crate Paper I used some of those little bits and badges from Scarlet Bird Designs. I love great bold papers but to go along with them I like to layer with a lot of extra bits here and there. I don't buy them much but it's been really fun working with all the little shapes and tags from Ursula's new line. 

Oh and did you notice the chevron arrow? That was the left behind bits from when I cut one of the arrows in a previous post of mine. I love paper cutting because what's left over is equally interesting as what the negative space looks like in what you are cutting.

We are having some much needed rain here in florida and a little less sunshine which is ok because I'm already tired of the heat! But I never tire of yellow and the happiness it exudes.

The Creative type...

Happy Mother's day Everyone! I hope if you're a mother you got to pamper yourself a little bit. I had a nice lunch with my sister...a little happy hour time and me time. Just what I need every now and then! I think it imperative to take some time out even if only and hour or two of just sitting still.

Over at The Creative type the challenge for the month was to create a layout all about empowerment. Your worries and concerns, the things you embrace about your life and the things you have learned to let go. 

I wanted to create something with a little color and text, something really fun. 

With each passing day I am inspired to create things that I love. When I was younger it was very hard for me because living a creative life is not always supported in school especially because it meant that you were different. So now as an adult I feel like if it's a passion of mine I have to celebrate and explore it even if I'm on my own! Life is just too short!

We all wish we had more time just sitting around in a jar, I certainly do but that's just not how it works. Cherish your time, be as authentic as you can, be grateful and just enjoy yourself!  In my thirties I didn't think about it as much but now I take time to appreciate where I am and the gifts that I have.

Scrap details - Arrows...

Happy Friday everyone! I've managed to keep the momentum going this week with several projects and deadlines. I had the opportunity to share a layout with you the other day showcasing a new element that I love...arrows. I have yet to get my hands on one of those fancy paper cutters or one of those great arrow stamps so I decided to make my own. Cut elements create great dimension and texture to a layout I think. 

Just sharing a little about how I create them today. I start by painting a strip of heavy weight cardstock. In this case I love using this really thick linen finish paper. It doesn't warp as much and the pigments sink into the paper and leaves such a great finish.

I usually tape the sides of the paper before painting just to get that white border on the sides. And yes that is washi tape...it doesn't stick to your paper. I'm sure blue painters tape will work just fine as well. Next, using a ruler I simple cut out one of the arrow shapes and then I use that piece that I cut as a guide for the rest of the arrows. 

I continue this all the way down. And don't throw away the pieces you cut either, they can be used for something else!

After I cut all the pieces out I cut the front end to create the arrow shape. In this case I started my arrow a little too close to the front so I didn't get the best point. I expect to create several of these so along with a little trial and error I will get that corrected. 

I've already begun a new layout using a few selected papers in some great colors and map designs. Don't know why I chose this particular shade of wine but I do love that gradual effect!

I love a modern clean statement in my design elements and these arrows have just the amount of graphic detail and simplicity. It was really great to incorporate this little detail into a layout. This was just a random little hand cut piece that I came up with and I'm really excited to see where I might go from here...That's until I get me a handy dandy shiny new paper cutter!

Today...

I get the pleasure of sharing a layout I created for Scarlet Bird Designs...The lovely Ursula asked me to be apart of a small team to share her new products. 

It's a cool new collection of journaling cards, little tags and fun badges. I had so much fun working with them, they are very versatile and would add the perfect finishing touch to any layout! I found these cool blues and yellows really easy to work with! 

One of the things I wanted to do was incorporate a little watercolor in the project so I created these ombre painted arrows that I hand cut. I'm sadly not a die cut machine owner...yet...so I have to hand cut many things on my own. Truthfully I didn't know how they would turn out but boy do I love the result. Better believe I will be using them again.

The ombre effect is secret love of mine. I love anything ombre! Purses dipped in dye, any thing tye-dye, I even saw an ombre cake that had me completely smitten!

I have been putting together a little post about how I created these arrows, it's a great trend that I'm really loving right now! In the next day or two expect to hear about a little of my process.
